The sexual revolution of the 60s and 70s brought about the so-called hippie movement which further impacted sexual morality as a source of freedom and breaking gender and social stereotypes.

The number of illegal abortions Lader alleged to be done annually in the United States was also fabricated. Although the actual figure was about one hundred thousand, Nathanson said, “The figure we gave to the media repeatedly [and the figure that appeared in Lader’s book] was one million. Repeating the big lie often enough convinced the public.”
